Executive Coaching

Get a Coach in your Corner

Our executive coaches provide leaders and growing professionals with one-on-one confidential skills development.  A combination of support and instruction, coaching provides practical tools and enduring positive changes.

Coaching begins with a client identifying that they need to cultivate additional support and skills in dealing with professional and personal challenges.  Each session typically is held for just under an hour weekly, bi-weekly or monthly and can be conducted in person at our offices or yours, by telephone or by video-conference.

Two forms of coaching are available: Self-directed and Organization-initiated.  In self-directed coaching, the participant identifies their own goals and is motivated to attend coaching to improve themselves.  The initial session provides an opportunity to identify goals and objectives for coaching and participants continue in the program on average for three to twelve sessions, and sometimes beyond.

Objectives for Coaching may include any or all of the following:

  1. Mastering difficult conversations, dealing with challenging people

  2. Assertion, effective persuasion, negotiation strategies

  3. Leadership problem-solving, addressing complex conflicts

  4. Communication skills, cross-cultural issues, dealing with difference

  5. Guided assistance with management duties like conducting fair and impartial investigations, effectively resolving team issues, mediating staff conflicts, responding to complaints, improving customer services, etc.

  6. Career changes, clarifying career interests and options

  7. Work-life balance, stress-management, time-management, managing emotions

  8. Managing up, board-leader relations, organizational influence

  9. Creativity, thinking outside the box, developing innovation

  10. and many other self-identified goals ranging form personal to professional

In Organization-initiated coaching, the participant is motivated to attend because the organization has identified that the individual would benefit from developing their insight, awareness, sensitivity, impulse-control, anger management, communication skills and/or negotiation strategies.  The Neutral Zone’s Professional Improvement program is a more developed program for this which include an assessment component as well as advanced skills training and sustainable commitments as described below.

Professional Improvement Program

In organization-directed coaching, the participant is requested to participate in coaching when problems with their communication skills, anger management strategies or leadership approach have been identified.  Often, the coaching participant’s initial session is held with the coach and a representative of the organization to identify goals and objectives for both the participant and the organization.  At the conclusion of coaching, a summary of key learning point may be provided, keeping confidential information shared by the participant private, but clarifying learning objectives that were achieved in writing for both the participant and the organization.  This form of coaching frequently occurs within the context of our Professional Improvement Program.
